Hello reader,
Do you believe that taking 1-2 vacations in a year will help your mental wellbeing for the 350 days you are not on vacation?
Or will relaxing on the weekend reset you for the grind in the week ahead?
What if every day you could refresh your mental state? How would it feel to be at peace and content everyday?
Here are some things you can do daily to improve your mental wellbeing:
Move Everyday
If you are regular to a gym, that’s great. But don’t be a couch potato on the days when you are not going to the gym.
Go for a leisurely stroll in your neighbourhood or get into the pool with your kids. Catch up with your friends over bowling or indoor rock climbing.
Physical activity is not just good for the body, but the endorphins are wonderful for putting you in a good mental state too. Don’t miss a day of being active and feeling alive.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
And as the saying goes – it’s all small stuff. Do you worry about how you are coming off to people? Will they love or respect you less if you do or don’t do something?
Do some people annoy the hell out of you? Why does that one thing bother you so much about your wife/husband or parents?
Let it go. There are some things outside of your control. Worry less about others, and change to being just an observer of things instead of getting your feeling tied up into it. Our mental chatter can be very negative and tiresome sometimes.
See if you can catch yourself when you are in the middle of complaining about things outside of you.
Giving Thanks
All day our mind is focused on solving problems. It is always thinking of how to make things better. By evolution we are made to focus on the lack of things.
By giving thanks for the small things in life, you recall the things you have managed to keep together.
At the end of every day, before you settle in for the evening or when you are closing your laptop from work, write 3-4 sentences starting with ‘I am grateful for… ’. Write about the small things that happened in your favour that day or made you feel good.
Even something as small as ‘I am grateful for having a peaceful few minutes to enjoy my morning coffee’. ‘I am grateful that I can afford to donate to my favourite charity’. 🙂
I can promise you when you are done with the 3-4 sentences, you will feel like a new person.
I hope these 3 things will help you bring a sense of peace in your day. The vacations and weekends then just become the cherry on the cake of your life.
To help you learn more about this topic, I have two posts for you. Both posts talk about mental wellness and will give you more insight into this important topic.
