Hello reader,
We often link acne with puberty. But, acne may persist even in adolescence. Adult acne, or post-adolescent acne, is acne that occurs after the age of 25.
Factors contributing to the development of this acne are excess oil production, clogged pores and consecutive inflammation.
In a few adults, there is overproduction of oil by the sebaceous glands and the pores fail to eliminate the oil. This causes the pores to clog, which ultimately leads to acne.
Altered hormonal levels, stress and use of pore-clogging cosmetics are the most common causes of acne in women.
Conditions like PCOS can influence oil production making a woman more prone for acne.
Thus, analyzing the underlying cause of the acne is very important. A dermatologist can help determine the possible cause and accordingly provide the right solution.
