Is it harder for women to lose weight?

I have been a fitness coach for a long time now, and one of the most common questions a lot of my female clients ask is, “Is it harder for a female to lose weight?” 

Some of them compare the rate of their weight loss with that of males and get frustrated.

Let’s decode this query today.

Many people speculate that weight loss is harder for females. Well, first of all, females naturally have 5-10% higher body fat percentage than males.

Another reason why it gets harder for females to lose weight is the slower metabolism. Also, females have comparatively lesser muscle mass as compared to males. Muscles are metabolically active tissues, meaning the higher the muscle mass, the higher the basal metabolic rate.

Additionally, females have lower levels of testosterone when compared to males, which makes it challenging for females to gain muscles.

These are some of the reasons for the concerned query. Easy or not, having a healthy lifestyle is the need of the hour.
