My weight loss success story

UPS AND DOWNS,  SUCCESS AND FAILURE ARE A PART OF LIFE.

THEY MAKE YOUR LIFE MORE INTERESTING.

I am Vaani Nagrani and I am 28.

I am a homemaker and also pursuing the Diploma in Nutrition and Fitness from INFS

Anyone who has tried to transform herself/himself, be it with respect to weight loss, weight gain, or personality development, has a story behind it and so do I.

So, I used to weigh 87 kg when I was in grade 10. I started gaining weight when I was around 10 years old and I was too young to understand terms such as fitness and weight loss. Also, since I was a pampered child, my family also didn’t care much at that time. But, when I was in higher school, I was body shamed to a great extent. I never participated in any sport and had very few friends. And, I became an EMOTIONAL EATER. No one in my family was overweight. All my cousins were quite fit. One of my cousins, who I was really close to, was really fit n beautiful (and continues to be). Whenever we used to go out together, everyone used to compare me with her.

Also, one of our relatives came to my mother and said to her, “do you think anyone is going to marry your daughter?”; I was just 19.

I remember my mum used to cry in front of me and tell me to join any activity so that I could shed some of my weight. But, I had no courage to join any activity.

One day though, my masi (maternal aunt) called me and told me that she has joined a gym where the coach is really hardworking. He had also just started his own gym and was the only one who was handling everything. Since he needed to promote his gym, he was really working hard on his clients. My aunt invited me to join the gym. I went and liked the workout session. I joined the gym where I found one of my best friends who also weighed around 90 kg. We started our journey together, set targets, and also achieved them. I used to manage my college, classes, and gym together. I used to wake up at 5 in the morning, go for a good run, come back, and go to college. During noon, I used to go and work out in the gym.

In 1.5 years, I lost 24 kg.

I set a goal – that cousin with whom I was compared was getting married, and I decided that I will achieve my desired figure. I will wear a lehenga and will surprise and shock the whole family. The same happened when I entered the banquet. Everyone gathered around me and started taking my interview. That relative who questioned my mum came to me and said she was proud of me. That day my mum was on cloud nine.

I worked hard; when all my college friends used to eat in cafes, I used to carry my own meals. But, all my hard work had paid off.

Now, it has been 5 years, I have gotten married, I am managing my household chores, and also following my dream of becoming a nutritionist. It’s a little hard but possible, and I am hoping for the same success that I got during my weight loss journey. Thank you for spending your valuable time reading my success story when I was just 20.
