How many of us have heard people say, “health is wealth”?
I am sure all have, and I am no different.
My parents always told me since childhood – health is wealth.
As I entered school, I studied about a balanced diet, I had physical education classes, and my teacher always said, “Vijaya, health is wealth”.
But, as I grew older, I got busy with work and absolutely forgot about health being wealth.
In 2017, I was working on the vision and mission of my life, crafting carefully what I needed from life, and how I was going to achieve it.
A 2-page long vision, starting from money to success, fame, travel, and so on, produced butterflies in my stomach and I couldn’t wait to begin.
The next morning, I was all set to execute my tiny goals to reach the final target. I was up early in the morning excited, energetic, and enthusiastic.
By noon, I had achieved 60% of the target for the day, and this boosted my confidence dramatically! But, something surprising happened post-lunch.
I started feeling low and lethargic. So, I decided to take a power nap.
15 minutes of power nap changed to 60-minute long nap.
But, I was still feeling the same.
A large cup of coffee later, I was still feeling the same.
I listened to some soothing music but I was still feeling the same.
Sadly, my unproductivity post 12 pm had been much more than my productivity till 12 pm!
Being a woman with a deadly combination of ego and willpower, I simply could not accept that I was losing, and most importantly, I was losing to myself. And that’s when life revealed this priceless secret to me.
“Thoughts are energy” and everything suddenly started to make absolute sense, and the law of conservation of energy was the basis for it.
I was overthinking about all that I was supposed to do which was consuming my mental energy. This was draining me and that’s why on day one, I couldn’t achieve anything past 12 pm. That was an aha moment that changed my life! Post that clarity, I started monitoring my thoughts and I could see a drastic improvement in my productivity.
I was now focusing on mind management and not time management which produced fantastic results. Gradually, I followed meditation, eating brain food, mental exercises, and I was fairly happy with my work, and more importantly, with my being.
My journey towards success continued with constant switches between surviving and thriving but I was okay until I joined a dance class and oh my god, the first day was absolutely killing. My entire body was hurting to an extent that I would not use the restroom until I was confident of urinating in my pants.
I felt like quitting but how can I quit? I couldn’t.
It was January 2022 and my goal for 2022 was and is health and fitness.
I wanted to push my every limit.
I wanted to defeat the older ME in every aspect of my life and to do that I needed power. To get the power, I not only had to eat but I had to eat right.
So, I met a nutritionist who guided me in my fitness journey and she explained the reason why health is wealth.
No more junk.
No random eating.
No late night sleeping.
My energy levels were rising day by day. I lost all the unnecessary fat and turned out to be much more in shape. My skin improved and there are other million improvements that I have experienced.
In one statement, the quality of my life improved.
Still, I haven’t reached my final destination because fitness is a journey. But, I am working closely on it and I am enjoying the process. I am not satisfied with the present me but I am certainly very happy!
Don’t wait for your body to reach a state of dis-ease, start caring now for the rest of your life.
Remember, every human being is the author of his own health or disease.
