At INFS, our constant aim is to educate people about fitness and nutrition. It is, indeed, a matter of pride for us that so many of our students have blossomed into certified fitness professionals. They are doing exceedingly well and have proven themselves in their chosen field of career.

It is time we celebrate their achievements and share their inspiring journeys with our readers. We are excited to launch INFS Alumni Interview Series on our blog. The interview series will regularly feature our alumni. They will share their journeys, career paths, achievements, and difficulties with us, thereby, giving us an insight into their lives as fitness professionals.

So, grab a cup of coffee and dive into our very first interview with Asmita Shah.

Let’s start with a quick introduction. Please tell our readers something about yourself.

I am Asmita Shah, a fitness consultant in FITTR and an INFS faculty. I am an engineer turned fitness coach.

What inspired you to become a fitness coach?

I had an eating disorder. I used to skip food, and did not have a good food relationship. I worked with a coach and then finally realized that I was not doing things properly, and I shouldn’t carry on the way I was going. My coach put me on a customized diet plan and I began to lose weight as I started eating good nutritious food and training in the gym.

I began to research more about nutrition and healthy eating in order to not lose my progress. It was not a short-term goal. I like dancing, so I had joined dance sessions. But, I had gotten injured and I was bedridden. The injury was because of a lack of proper nutrition and training. Then, I decided to study nutrition and fitness science and later wanted to help others just like my trainer had helped me. So, I applied for the INFS courses.

What was the most valuable lesson you learned from INFS?

You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. INFS has given me this opportunity to change my life and I can help others as well. Your life is a result of the choices you make. If you don’t like your life, it is time to start making better choices.

How has being a fitness coach contributed to your overall health and wellness?

I feel more active now.

Describe a day in the life of a fitness coach.

The life of a coach can look glamorous. Wearing athletic clothes all day, making people fit, posting cool videos on social media, and generally having a positive impact on society by making the world a healthier place might seem to be the life of a coach, but this is just a snippet. Client calls, talking to leads, update calls, updating charts, managing our own workouts, diet planning, reminding clients about their updates, solving client queries in an online setup, and a lot has to be done under client handling.

What keeps you motivated as a fitness coach?

My client’s success stories, non-scale victories, improved health parameters, better energy levels keep me motivated. All these, scale and non-scale victories, keep me going. I feel so happy when I see their health improving and changing for the better and that’s what keeps my energy high.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years as a fitness professional?

I see myself as an advanced coach in FITTR by changing the lives of people, making them more fit, and educating the masses as an INFS faculty.

Career opportunities in the fitness industry are gaining popularity day by day. What would be your advice to fitness enthusiasts who dream of building a career in this industry?

The fitness industry in India has been witnessing massive growth in the past few years. The first step would be to choose which aspect interests you the most – nutrition, mental well-being, holistic health, activity-based workouts, and so forth. Secondly, learn the nitty-gritty! Guiding someone on nutrition or providing fitness training, while considering different health and socio-economic backgrounds of clients, is a tough task that requires a complete command over the field, backed by science. The best tip is to start developing an online presence as you complete your professional course to reach out and connect with a like-minded audience and potential customers. The best weapons in this industry are a positive attitude, the right knowledge, and confidence. A lack of any of these may spoil your chances of building a strong name and career in the long haul.

Staying fit and healthy are the keys to garner mass audiences.

That was Asmita Shah and all about her journey as a fitness professional. We are certain that she will achieve all her dreams and continue to educate people about fitness and nutrition.
