Hello reader,
It’s normal to rely on tips you read on various social media platforms. However, it is important to check the source of a certain piece of information.
There are many myths about fitness and exercises floating around on the internet. So, today, I want to bust some common myths about strength training.
No Pain, No Gain
The most common myth in the room, and that makes people in the gym work hard to break those weights. Overtraining in the name of perceiving more pain by lifting heavy loads and for a long period will only lead to an injury, declined performance, and an increased recovery time.
Lifting Weights makes you Bulky
Simply lifting weights doesn’t help men gain muscle. It also doesn’t make women look bulky.
While sex hormones play a role, women don’t get bulky by lifting weights. In fact, weight/strength training helps them with a lot of health benefits.
Spot Reduction
The most popular phrase that one searches on the web is ‘How to reduce fat of X body part?’. Let me bust this myth for you. The word ‘toned’ doesn’t exist in scientific fitness literature.
The truth is that strength training over a long period of time will help gain muscle and that feels hard aka ‘toned’.
To lose the extra flab around the waist, one needs to be in a calorie deficit along with a strength training regime.
Hope these myths help you understand the real aspect of strength training.
