Celebrating Women

 The Second Inning in Life

‘There is always the second inning in life’ – Harsha Bhogle

In the first inning of life, most women are busy with their family, work, and other responsibilities. For me, it was bringing up my two daughters as a working mother with very little help as my husband used to get frequently transferred due to his job.

It was not that I was not aware of my nutritional and fitness needs but I lacked knowledge.

My younger daughter started succeeding in Artistic Gymnastics and played internationals, but was always called ‘fat’. Therefore, there were frequent visits to reputed sports nutritionists and she would recommend foods like quinoa, chia seeds, brown rice, kale, etc, and it was convincing as most celebrity nutritionists recommended it too. I always received diet charts that had approximate measurements like one bowl, one fruit, cups, etc

Let me tell you, by this time at 50, I had personally accepted and blamed my borderline diabetes, high cholesterol, and fatty liver grade-2 on menopause and aging. I was convinced that this happens to every woman eventually. My young babyface proved to be an embarrassment as people used to offer me a seat thinking I was pregnant due to my fat belly. I even stopped dyeing my grey hair to avoid this embarrassment and look older.

People hate social media for a lot of reasons, but for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today, without it. Why? Because, one day while looking for healthy recipes on Facebook, I stumbled upon D3 (now Fittr). I was in awe looking at people’s transformation with Fittr! Quantified nutrition made so much more sense, and I wondered why people didn’t know about this? I knew for sure that by learning more, it would change not only my life but also my friends’ and family’s lives!

I had zero knowledge of the internet and online classes. So, pursuing a career in nutrition and fitness seemed like a distant dream. But, I had made up my mind. I wanted the change that my body, mind, and soul deserved.

And there it began – my second inning in life.

I joined the INFS foundation course just to understand the basics of nutrition and to prepare perfect meals for my gymnast daughter and soon, I got selected for FTP and learned a lot.

My health started improving, I was free from medications, and in the same year, I cleared my foundation exam! I have done many courses from INFS and it makes me very happy when I get to help and empathize with my friends and colleagues as I can understand and relate to their health and self-confidence issues.

I am so grateful now that I’m no more the menopausal aunty who gets giddy by climbing a flight of stairs, waits helplessly for a cab as she can’t walk with aching knees, and was always dependant on others for carrying groceries.

Don’t let anything stop you from being the best you and giving yourself the life you deserve.

So, here is your sign to rewrite your second inning in life – start now.
