Fitness to me is not only about indulging in a workout routine but also a concept that brings a change in mindset. It transforms you physically, mentally, psychologically, and socially.
During mid-2017, I was working in a software company and was also involved in some other job preparation, and coping with both things was not easy.
At that time, I decided to quit my job and focus on one thing, and contrastingly, the purpose for which I left my job was also not fulfilled. It got me shattered and I felt like why had this happened to me? I got myself isolated and was in search of what to do next. At the same point in time, I also knew that the coming months/years of further exam preparations won’t be easy, so I need to be tough more mentally and physically.
I have always been someone who knew the importance of good health in life, and for that, I thank my maternal grandfather, an ex-serviceman, who always inculcated this idea of fitness in me since childhood.
So, the very first thing I started was to be sure that I find an hour in a day to do my workout which not only helped to maintain my physical fitness but also gave me enough confidence to do my best every single day. Certainly, bigger things take time. It took me one and a half year to get myself placed in a good position and interestingly I was AIR 4 in one particular assessment.
During this period, I also realized, the role of mental health in life. Nowadays, everybody is so busy in their lives, it gets difficult at times to tell someone how you feel. It’s very important to address this issue well in time considering the rise in the number of cases of stress and depression. One solution is to engage yourself in some form of activity where you feel happy and alive, (for me, it was my workout time) the other could be, “to talk”. Talk about your concerns, what is wrong, and discuss how things could be sorted.
Well, things got better and the belief, that “to achieve anything in life, you need to plan, know what are your weaknesses, strengths and there should be a proper roadmap which could make things fall in place” also got stronger.
The same concept applies to fitness also, we should know the basics first. Again, that was the time when I had little knowledge about exercise and nutrition and there were so many myths in mind. In 2019, I got posted at a location where there were no gyms and nobody to guide me. I used to follow the same exercise routine which led to a knee injury and I couldn’t do any form of exercise for six months.
I consulted doctors, physiotherapists and was also introduced to “FITTR” by my that time friend now-husband. A platform where I learned about the importance of nutrition, how it works logically, and understood the importance of training different muscle groups that were lacking earlier. Things improved and now the situation is much better as compared to the previous state. I could say that it is helping me to become a better version of myself.
In the end, I would say we all have choices, and the choices we make have a big impact on our life. So, let’s take up fitness and good health as one choice which could share to contribute to a better quality of life.
